Last Day NBA League Pass Free Preview < Streaming | Henry Villadiego

November 3, 2009

With a new season underway, you may be considering adding NBA League Pass to your applicable cable or satellite service.  Is your carrier on the list?  Here’s some good news if it is not.  The online equivalent, NBA League Pass Broadband on NBA.com, is now available in two standalone subscription packages.

NBA Digital will offer the NBA League Pass Broadband package — providing more than 40 live games per week — for $149.95, according to Turner officials. In addition, NBA fans will be able to select up to seven teams to watch throughout the season as part of a new $99.95 NBA league Pass Broadband Choice package. The league is offering a special early-bird pricing through Nov. 3 for League Pass Broadband and Broadband Choice both packages $134.95 and $89.95 respectively.

Still not convinced? Perhaps you want to see who are the hot teams this season first, before plunking down your cash?  You are in luck (sort of).  Today is the last day of the NBA League Pass Broadband free preview.  Coming off two terrific television seasons, the NBA isn’t resting on their laurels in terms of making games available to their fans.  Below, is also the list of brand name Cable MSOs carrying NBA League Pass.

Among the cable operators offering the package distributed by In Demand Networks this season: Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Cox Communications and Bright House Networks, plus a number of independent MSOs.Customers who order by Nov. 3 will save $20 with the early bird price of $169, or four installments of $42.25 each.

Dish Network is also offering the free preview.

Not an extensive list, but all the major players are there.  Nonetheless, the NBA League Pass preview lets you take a sneak peek at what you will be getting in terms of new features and who might be the team to beat this year.  If that’s not enough to convince you to hook up a HTPC to your HDTV for year round premium basketball, they also have applications for Android and the iPhone.  Insert the usual subject to blackout and fees may apply disclaimers.

To recap, the NBA League Pass offers three viewing options:

  • BROADBAND
  • TV
  • MOBILE

The good and bad news: all three must be purchased separately.  As of this writing there is no three-point package.

It is a far cry from some of the free content out there, but in terms of OTT sports packages, this is probably the top of the line right now.  And no Pay TV commitment is required.  Why not take a sneak peek and see if you should take a shot or pass.  Happy viewing.
