Revolutionary Film Marks first Webcast for Spaceman Network
Avatar, James Cameron‘s highly anticipated 3D film, will be MTV Networks’ inaugural webcast Dec. 3rd at 3PM EST.
Thesps Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington will join producer Jon Landau and Cameron on the webcast, to be moderated by MTV News managing editor Josh Horowitz. The 30-minute event, which will feature unseen footage from the movie, also will be shown on the “Avatar” Facebook fan page, with fans able to submit questions at either site.

Exclusive footage and the opportunity to ask direct questions is a collaboration between:
- 20th Century Fox
- MTVN Music and Logo Group
This is Mr. Cameron’s latest stop on what Engadget calls “the promotional hype train for Avatar.” One of the questions you can expect will be about the film’s impact on stereoscopic 3D (S3D) in homes next year.
Mr. Cameron may respond by plugging the set of Augmented Reality (AR) tie-ins to the movie, namely:
- Mattel’s line of toys featuring itag
- Coke Zero’s AVTR Program
- McDonald’s planned Pandora’s Quest online game
Cool technologies that they are, both S3D and AR bring a considerable learning curve with them. If anyone can bring 3D home, be it stereoscopic HDTV displays or augmented reality it has to be the director of the Titanic, right?
You may submit questions to Team Avatar from either Facebook or MTV’s site. To whet your appetite for Mr. Cameron’s vision, a feature from last month is embedded below. Happy viewing.
