MySpace Streams Twilight Red Carpet Live

Twilight Saga: New Moon is getting added web exposure at its opening night screening. MySpace and  one lucky contest winner will be red carpet-side, greeting arrivals to the highly anticipated sequel’s premiere.

Red carpets are the hot new category in live-streaming events, with the premiere of Michael Jackson’s This Is It drawing 1.8 million viewers late last month. Though as we’ve said in the past, live access to the red carpet is a painful tease as Internet fans always get cut off when the event actually starts.

Before a posthumous movie premiere event, Michael Jackson’s funeral drew record web crowds back in July.  There were a great number of  lessons learned, as NewTeeVee reported during live coverage. Several news outlets provided simulcast live streams over the web, using different partners and technology:

• USA Today powered by Livestream
• InMusic powered by Silverlight

For New Moon‘s red carpet  event MySpace is going with Ustream. (Technology partners for the funeral stream were not provided).  Gannes points out MySpace a tradeoff between Ustream‘s quality (perhaps not HD) for reliability. 

After admittedly forgetting one of the rules and conceding the social networking space to Facebook, if you believe the internet:

And a sign that more events such as this may arrive in the future, MySpace “was able to get the red carpet live stream exclusively due to a larger deal” with New Moon‘s Studio Summit Entertainment to leverage multiple sectors of the  MySpace website.  Just a few weeks ago  Twilight‘s Soundtrack was #1 on Billboard charts, serving as one example of the relationship’s breadth. 

New Moon should bring the right exposure as MySpace heads in its new direction.  And by taking place in the evening (6:00 PM PT), unlike the MJ Funeral, you will have the opportunity to watch in on your big screen HDTV and not your office PC.  Happy viewing.
