Google, that’s who! If haven’t heard already, Google entered into an agreement to acquire On2 Technologies. If you believe the internet, Google just bought a codec and nothing more. The video below, from 2008, gives a little of On2’s background, as told by their CEO.

You may already be a big fan of On2 and not even know it. They power Flash, ubiquitous on the web, and Move Networks uses their technology to stream ABC shows like LOST in HD. But don’t fear, this deal should not impact those existing players.
Maybe Google just wanted to steal back the headlines after that deal last week…
